At that time, I had never had a green tea drink, but I was willing to try. I was 249 pounds and I was looking to get down to around 180 within a year's time. By November 2011, I had not had a soda in over a year, and my daily drinks included water, milk, and apple juice, but I was looking for something else as a cold drink. I didn't know it at the time, but Lipton's Green Tea was going to become my favorite new drink, and one that was going to help me lose 59 pounds in just under a year.
So, what is it about green tea that is so beneficial to one's health? Green tea contains a lot of technical things including catechins, carotenoids, tocopherals, Vitamin C, chromium, zinc, manganese, and selenium. Green tea has more potent antioxidants than black tea.
What are the health benefits of all of those things? Through scientific research, it was determined that green tea can reduce the risk of dental cavities, kidney stones, cardiovascular disease, and cancer. It also improves bone density and cognitive functions.
And it does not end there. Other studies have shown that green tea fights heart disease and can lower "bad" cholesterol. I believe I can definitely attest to the reduction in bad cholesterol, as I had gone from a very high cholesterol to "perfect" cholesterol since I started drinking green tea.
Finally, in another study at Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh, participants were asked to not change their diets, but were also asked to drink four cups of green tea a day for 14 days. What they found was that those that drank green tea lost body weight and body fat.
In the last year, I owe a lot of my good health to my green tea consumption. If you are looking to lose weight and to find an alternative to soda, my suggestion is to start drinking Green Tea. Drink to your health!!!
